Feared a
Breakdown

A verdict of suicide at a time when she was not responsible for her actions was returned by the East Northants Coroner (Capt. J. S. Parker) at an inquest at Barton Seagrave on Monday.

The inquiry was into the death of Mrs. Dorothy Amelia Peacock (52), of 15, Ridgeway-road, Barton Seagrave, who was found dead on Saturday morning.

Dr. J W. Notley, Kettering, said that Mrs. Peacock was dead when he examined her. There were marks on her neck to suggest that a rope had been twice round it. He had been attending her for two or three weeks, and she had been depressed and anxious. Twenty years ago she had had a nervous breakdown and was fearing another.

Harold Tyler Peacock, husband, bank accountant, said that he left home at 10.30 on Saturday, when his wife was engaged in household duties. When he returned an hour later he found her hanging by a rope from the banisters. He sent for help and cut her down.

Giving the verdict, Capt. Parker said that there was no doubt that Mrs. Peacock dreaded another breakdown.

Supt. A J. Chapman was present on behalf of the police.
